SHILLONG, Jun 25: The East Jaintia Hills administration today said that there is no fresh mining activities in the district.
Itr may be mentioned that in order to stop illegal coal mining in the district, the administration, in the past few months had detailed duties to Executive Magistrates to conduct mine raids, to monitor and check illegal coal mining activities.
“Today the Deputy Commissioner, F. M Dopth along the Additional Deputy Commissioner East Jaintia Hills District S.S Syiemlieh, D.M. Suja and S. Marwein EAC, executive magistrates and police personnel of the district conducted an extensive coal mine raids in Dkhiah, Rymbai, Sutnga and Sohkymphor village,” a statement stated.
The Deputy Commissioner led the coal mine raid covering coal mining areas in Dienchynrum , Rymbai, Umshong and Iapmala.
Syiemlieh took charge of raids in Sutnga, Sakhain and Lelad areas, while, Suja covered areas in Sohkymphor and Byrwai and Marwein covered areas in Dkhiah.
However, according to the press statement during the inspection it was found out that were no fresh illegal coal mining activities.
“Many coal mines were left abandoned and there were no fresh coal dumps in the inspected coal mines. Abandoned labourers sheds, non- functional cranes, equipment, water-filled pits, and piles of waste coal and dirt were found in the coal mining areas,” the statement said.
