Shillong, Mar 8: Nongpoh MLA, Mayralborn Syiem, on Monday said that citizens of Meghalaya living along the border with Assam are registering their land with the neighbour due to complexities of registration in the state.
Syiem said that people in Ri-Bhoi who live along the border with Assam are far away from Nongpoh.
In his reply, during the Question Hour, Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma said that the government has no plans to introduce ‘spot land registration’. Sangma also said that the state was committed to protect the land within Meghalaya at the border.
“At present both the states of Assam and Meghalaya are engaged in bilateral talks, at the level of the Chief Minister and Chief Secretary for maintain the status quo,” the Chief Minister said.
Sangma also said that the Deputy Commissioners of the concerned districts are directed to be on vigil and to report to the government of any untoward movement.
