Shillong, Dec 4: Minister-in-charge PHE Renikton Lyngdoh Tongkhar today conducted an inspection to check the construction work of the Nongrah Water Supply Scheme (Phase 1) at Nongthymmai constituency.
The minister was accompanied by UDPGeneral SecretaryDr. Jemino Mawthoh, engineers of the scheme and members of Nongrah Dorbar Shnong.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, the PHE Minister informed that the scheme will cover 100 percent population of Nongrah, which has been experiencing acute water scarcity for decades.
He revealed that the scheme will provide 70 litre per capita per day (LPCD), which is higher to other schemes including Jal Jeevan Mission which allots 55 LPCD.
“If this scheme is successful, we can replicate the same kind of project for places with no rivers as the source of water. Despite being a dry season, there is water here,” he said.
Dr. Jemino Mawthoh, who was also theformer MLA from the constituency, informed that the Phase 1 of Nongrah Water Supply Scheme amounting to Rs 5.9 crores to cover a population of more than 12,000 was approved by PHE on 31st March 2017.
Meanwhile,Nongrah Rangbah Shnong B. Pyngrope urged the PHE department to increase the depth of the sump so as to generate another 2 Lakh litres per day.
