Now compulsory to furnish marriage certificate

SHILLONG, Aug 28: The state government has made it mandatory that married persons should “compulsorily” furnish a “marriage certificate” for all official purposes.

The notification was published by the Excise, Registration, Taxation and Stamps (ERTS) Department on August 16.

“All government departments are mandated to ensure that individuals are made to submit the marriage certificate for all official purposes,” the notification from the ERTS department states.

The Meghalaya Assembly passed the act in September 2012 to provide for compulsory registration of marriages in the state.
