NPP: Amended MRSSA more robust that the one passed in 2016

Shillong, Dec 11: The National People’s Party (NPP), today said that the Meghalaya Residents Safety and Security Act (MRSSA), (Amendment), Bill, 2020 in its current form is more robust and substantial unlike during the Congress regime where it was toothless and vague.

“The MRSSA passed by Dr. Mukul’s government was just an instrument to play with people’s emotions to earn petty vote banks,” Shillong city president of the NPP said.

It may be mentioned that opposition leader, Dr. Mukul Sangma during his meeting on Thursday, urged the Governor, to recall the MRSSA (Amendment) Bill, 2020 and to make the original act which was passed in 2016 operational.

He also said that Dr. Sangma’s own government has voiced out his ignorant and careless attitude towards the lLP issue through the high-level committee (HLC) of 2012.

Nongbri informed that the then Congress government in 2012 had constituted a high-lever committee.

“The committee collectively recommended LP The Congress outrighty rejected the recommendations and did nothing Bindo Lanong, the then Deputy Chief Minister criticised the government over its inaction as well and stated that the constitution of the committee was a waste, since Congress had refused to take action over it,” he added.

The Shillong city president of the NPP said that if Dr. Sangma did not listen to a seasoned politician like Lanong, and to a committee appointed by himself, how can one expect him to listen to the voice of the people?

“He merely knows how to distract the public attention by coming up with immaterial Bills like the Meghalaya Regulation of Landlords and Verification of Tenants Bill that would have made the local people of Meghalaya minority within their own state,” Nongbri added.
