NPP confident of forming EC in GHADC: Conrad

Shillong, Feb 19: The National People’s Party (NPP) national president and Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, today stated that he was confident his party will form the Executive Committee in Garo Hills Autonomous District Council.

“The poll prospect is ever positive and the NPP is very confident of forming the EC,” he said.

Responding to questions on the pending salaries of employees of the District Council, Conrad claimed that the NPP government had cleared more salaries in comparison with previous governments.

“There have been salaries when the NPP government took over many months of salaries was not given. In fact if you look at the records in the time period when the NPP took over we have been able to clear more salaries compared to what it was before we took over,” he stated.

He added that pre Christmas, two months of salary was cleared from the government’s side.

On allegations of corruption, he reiterated that an audit is being conducted and reports are awaited.

Meanwhile, in response to questions on other MDA partners fielding their own candidates to GHADC, Conrad said, “Every party has got its own identity any party has a right to contest any election that they want, so there is nothing surprising and nothing wrong in it.”

However, he added that at the state level, the coalition is ‘together’ and committed to the government.
