Officer of Hallidayganj PS transferred

SHILLONG, Apr 15: An officer and personnel of Hallidayganj police station, West Garo Hills district has been transferred following the alleged lathi-charge on villagers on the night of April 13.

It was alleged on that particular night, the villagers went to complain against the presence of National People’s Party (NPP) candidate Ferlin CA Sangma in Konachar area where re-poll was held on Monday, but instead they were lathi-charged.

In a letter to returning officer of the by-poll for the Selsella assembly seat, West Garo Hills, Superintendent of Police (SP), Dr MGR Kumar informed that the police officer and personnel of Hallidayganj police station has been moved out of the area and sent to the Police Reserve, Tura.

Also, deputy superintendent of police, John CA Sangma, West Garo Hills district, have been directed to conduct an inquiry into the incident and to submit the findings at the earliest.
