One arrested for assault in Laitumkhrah case

Shillong, Sept 2: Meghalaya Police, on Wednesday, informed that another person involved in the assault of a man at Shillong’s Goraline area has been arrested.

East Khasi Hills SP, S. Nongtnger revealed that the accused are Sachin Singh (26), Uudham Singh (23) Malkit Singh (19) Vikash Singh (20) and Rocky Singh (40). 

On September 25, a person identified as Armel Steward Nongdhar was assaulted while he was travelling to Laitumkhrah. 

“On reaching Goraline locality above the bridge, (he) saw a person in a motorbike standing in the middie of the road and when he requested him to clear the road, the person became aggressive and called his friends who were standing nearby,” Nongtnger informed. 

The complainant suffered mild swelling on the face and minor injury.

Following this, a team of Special Operation Team personnel was sent to the location and the headman of the locality was also summoned and four persons were arrested. 

“In view of the existing Covid protocol, the accused were sent for Medical examination and COVID Test (RT PCR) and then accordingly kept in the quarantine center for accused before production for the mandatory períod till the test results are obtained. Further, after receipt of test results only the arrested accused will be produced in Court and remanded to police custody for further examination,” the statement from the EKH Superintendent of Police read. 

“The District Police is making all efforts to catch the rest of the culprits,” it read.
