One labourer killed in godown fire at Madanrting

Shillong, June 15: A 45-year-old labourer from Jorhat was found dead after a fire broke out at a godown in Madanrting, East Khasi Hills on the intervening night of Monday.

East Khasi Hills Police informed that they received information that a fire broke out inside a room at Madanrting Block-F.

“Accordingly Police Official of Madanrting Police Station immediately visited the spot to ascertain the information, and upon enquiry, it was found that the fire broke out in the godown of Smti. Meera Kharkongor,” G K Iangrai, Assistant Inspector General of Police (A) stated.

After the fire was doused, the dead body of a labourer identified as Ramesh Bara a resident of Tarajani Village, Jorhat was recovered. Police state that the deceased was working as a labourer for Meera Kharkongor since last 4 years and was staying in the godown with the grandson of the godown owner.

Police informed that after observing legal formalities, they suspected foul play. A case under relevant section of Indian Penal Code was registered and 3 suspects were arrested.

Iangrai revealed that 1 Small Hammer, 1 Shovel and 2 partially burnt firewood which are suspected to be used for the commission of crime were duly seized from the Place of Occurrence.
