SHILLONG, Mar 9: One person suspected with contracting the coronavirus has been admited in NEIGRIHMS, sources said on Monday morning.

According to Sampath Kumar, the patient has just arrived from Delhi and was complaining of fever.

“… so he’s under observation and tests on him has been completed.

He has been kept in the isolation ward.

Kumar also said that the report will be available after three days to confirm whether its positive or negative.

“The doctors are trying to find out his contact tracing. This could be a case of bacterial pneumonia also. His sample is being sent to ICMR, Kolkata for corona test,” the Commissioner and Secretary Health said.

Kumar also urged the District Administration to make an appeal to people to stay calm and not panic and follow strictly the advisory given by the State Health Department.

It may be mentioned that taking into account the Covid-19 outbreak across the globe, the state government on Friday had decided to scale down the much anticipated ‘Meghalayan Age Festival’ to a conference with limited invites.

The festival was scheduled to be held from March 7 to March 15 at Wenfield, Thadlaskein, West Jaintia Hills. The annual Trade Fair, which was supposed to be held at Madan Iewrynghep has also been cancelled.

The Chief Minister Conrad Sangma said that the decision was undertaken during a meeting with the state’s Health, Tourism and Home departments.

“As mass gatherings are to be avoided as per the Health department’s advisory, it is decided that the earlier planned events like evening music concerts and tethered balloon flights will not be held for the first three days,” Conrad said.

He further added that the first three days will only be a “Media Conference” and a “familiarization trip” for the 50-70 invitees who will be going through the existing screening process as per Government of India and State Government’s protocols.

“The state’s department of Tourism, is fully cognizant of the public advisory released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and the Department of Health and Family Welfare of the Government of Meghalaya regarding the outbreak of the COVID-19 Virus in India,” Conrad had stated.

He informed that 54 students out of the 61 who had come from coronavirus affected countries especially China, have had their 28 days of quarantined period and came out clean. While the rest are still under observation.

“13 hospitals in the state have been identified where isolations wards will be set up,” the Chief Minister had said.
