Opposition Congress tables no confidence motion against NPP led EC in GHADC

SHILLONG, Nov 25: The opposition Congress in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on Monday submitted a no-condidence motion against the Dipul R Marak, led Executive Committee (EC) of the National People’s Party (NPP).

The chairman of the GHADC, has admitted the no confidence motion and announced in the House today that it will be taken up on November 27.

The grounds pointed out by the opposition for bringing the no-confidence was mismanagement of district council’s funds and sources.

The other ground for bringing the no-confidence motion is failure to pay monthly salaries to employees of the district council for more than 20 months and long pending bills to the contractors and the suppliers.

The opposition also said that the EC totally failed to protect and preserve land and the properties of district councils.

Another reason brought by the opposition Congress for tabling the no confidence motion was the total failure to protect the interest of the indigenous people and also failure to adopt strategies, programme and policies to fulfil mandate of the constitution.

It may also be mentioned that the deputy chairman of the GHADC, Mettrinson G Momin on Monday resigned from his post.

He is one of the ten members to sign the no confidence motion.
