Opposition leader slams govt over unfilled vacancies in police dept

Shillong, Oct 12: Meghalaya Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma on Monday questioned as to why vacancies in the police department are yet to be filled.

Dr. Sangma alleged that a recent notification offering SF10 personnel the option to join Indian Reserve Battalion or DEF constable shows that there were vacancies ‘being blocked.”

“What does this indicate? The vacancies available with home police are not being filled, rather than filling these vacancies through recruitment. Are they trying to abandon the SF10?” he questioned.

He also slammed Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma for not convening even one state security commission meeting.

The Leader of Opposition also said that a delegation from Sohra had informed him that MCCL plants were currently not operational reportedly because of lack of funds to buy coal or to ‘mobilise working capital.’

The reason, he said, was because of ‘dislocation’ of funds. “There is a dislocation of money to government exchequer and this will have a serious infliction in the overall financial health of the state,” he said.
