Over 10,000 stranded persons have returned to Meghalaya


Shillong, May 27: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, on Wednesday, informed that 10,151 people have returned to the state till 2 pm today.

Out of the total, 648 persons are in institutional quarantine and the rest are under home quarantine. The government has contacted 7776 persons through IVRS.

The total number of samples tested for COVID-19 is 6553 and 6138 have tested negative. Result of 395 persons are still awaited.

All returnees have been directed to register themselves through the Corona Web App and will have to undergo temperature screening, Rapid Test Kit and RT PCR if they are returning from High Risk Areas outside the state, the Deputy CM stated.

It may be noted that the 7 COVID-19 positive cases are of returnees who arrived from Chennai and Delhi-Haryana region. The government is tracing the contacts of the patients tested positive for the virus.

Tynsong informed that those persons whose transportation is being arranged by the state are being kept at quarantine centres until the results of their samples arrive.

If their result is negative, they will be allowed to return home and self quarantine for 14 days.

Meanwhile, it was also informed that the government is line listing elderly people at district levels and they will be imparted with training on nutrition and safety measures.

Special trains from Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, and Kerala carrying residents of the state are currently en route to Guwahati railway station.
