Shillong, Aug 10: The People’s Democratic Front, on Monday, voiced concerns regarding several provisions of the draft Environment Impact Assessment Notification 2020.
The party submitted its view on the contentious draft EIA Notification 2020 to the Union Minister Prakash Javadekar, the Secretary of MoEF&CC with a copy to the Joint Secretary of MoEF&CC.
After detail assessment, the party felt that some provisions of the draft can have a negative impact on the cultural and unique lifestyle of the indigenous people of the state.
“Many provisions of this notification would lead to irreversible damage to the Environment which can have a catastrophic impact on the health and survival of the general public as well as the immense Biodiversity of the state since Meghalaya is also a part of the Indo -Burma Biodiversity Hotspot of the world,” the letter read.
Auspicious L Mawphlang, PDF General Secretary, informed that the party met with the Chief Minister with a request to re-evaluate and reassess the draft.
