SHILLONG, Jan 7: The office of the Meghalaya unit of the BJP in the heart of the city was attacked by unknown miscreants on Sunday night. The office is situated at Bivar Road.
Fortunately no one was injured in the petrol bomb attack but the windows of the BJP office were damaged.
The attack on the office of the BJP came a night before the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) on Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 was to table its report to the Lok Sabha.
However, according to police the timely arrival of Fire Service engines the flames were doused.
Meanwhile, the state unit of the BJP has condemned the act of arson on in its state headquarters.
“The party while lodging a FIR with the police, copies of which have bveen sent to the Chief Minister and the Home Minister, have urged upon to take stern action against the perpetrators of this heinous crime,” AL Hek, BJP legislator and a Minister in the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government said.
Meanwhile, the party has also requested the police to ensure that the culprits should not be allowed to go scot free even as it requested the Home Department to deploy security in all its offices throughout the state to prevent any untoward incident.
The Spokesperson of the rescue operation also informed that the Odisha Fire Service has reported on Monday that they stop pumping water from the two old shafts at 5:30 pm.
“Both the pumps were run for ten hours each on Monday and the total water discharge pumped out today is 180000 liters,” Susngi informed.
