Petrol bomb hurled, five police injured

Shillong, Aug 26: Four police officials and a driver were injured after unknown  miscreants hurled petrol bombs at a police vehicle late night on Tuesday in Ri Bhoi District.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police, informed that on Tuesday, the Farmers Association of Lawmei and those opposing Assam vehicles coming to the Lawmei vegetable collection centre, had a meeting with the BDO Sohiong and accompanied by OC Lumdiengjri.

The BDO then requested security from the police and were provided with one ABSI, three SF-10 personnel and a driver.

It was informed that on their return from Lawmei with the vegetable trucks, stones were pelted and petrol bombs hurled at the police vehicle at Umbir, Ri-Bhoi district.

“The SF-10 personnel sustained burnt injuries. Immediately, they were rushed to Civil Hospital Shillong. Two police personnel have been admitted where their condition is stable while the other 3 have been discharged after rendering first aid,” the statement from the EKH SP read.

An FIR has been lodged by OC Lumdiengjri PS and a case vide Umiam Police Station, it added.
