Shillong, Oct 7: A pre fabricated structure which will serve as the entry point at Umling will be operational on or before December 15, informed Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Wednesday.
Tynsong added that the structure, which will be built to check the influx of outsiders to the state, will also serve as a COVID-19 checkpoint.
Responding to questions regarding de-sanctioning of the previous agreement, the Deputy Chief Minister admitted that the contractor had spent Rs 4 crore on the project.
He added that contractor had already begun work of the entry point and that land development was already undertaken.
The new structure, Tynsong said, will cost the government Rs 3 crores.
In response to questions regarding the state government’s expenditure on COVID-19, the Deputy Chief Minister said that he will accompany Chief Minister Conrad Sangma to Delhi this month to request for more financial assistance.
Yesterday, the government informed that they had already spent Rs. 399 crore in the fight against coronavirus, of which the centre contributed Rs. 48 crores.
