Shillong, Sept 28: The Meghalaya Assembly Committee on Privileges on Monday held a meeting to discuss privileges of MLAs in regards to various government schemes and on alleged ‘non-responsive’ attitude of some government officers towards various Committee members.
The Committee summoned the Chief Secretary, Additional Chief Secretary, Finance, Planning, and Personnel Commissioner and various officials from the secretariat. The Chief Secretary was not present as he was out of state.
Speaking to reporters after the meet, Privileges Committee member H.M Shangpliang informed that Chairman Saleng A. Sangma has urged officials to release all MLA funds for the year 2019-2020 before the next assembly session, failing which, he said, “the committee will be compelled to take necessary action as empowered into the committee.”
“Every MLA has entitlements in the form of schemes and policies framed by the government with certain programs like the ISYDP, Art and Culture scheme, SRWP, and CM’s Rural Development Fund.
The government has not been releasing these funds regularly,” Shangpliang said.
He informed that they received the Special Rural Work Programme Scheme (SRWP) of Rs 25 lakh for 2019-2020 got but the government is yet to release the rest 2.5 crores.
The Committee Chairman also said that he has asked the Chief Secretary M.S Rao to give a stern warning to officers who fail to respond to summons from various Committee members.
