SHILONG, Dec 17: Nagaland Governor, RN Ravi today took additional charge of Meghalaya.
Ravi was sworn in at the Raj Bhavan this afternoon by Chief Justice of Meghalaya High Court by Meghalaya High Court Chief Justice, Mohammad Rafiq.
Ravi is filling in for Tathagata Roy who is reportedly on leave for two weeks.
It may be mentioned that on Monday, the President of India issued an order appointing Ravi, to discharge the functions of the Governor of Meghalaya, in addition to his own duties, “during the absence on leave of Roy, Governor of Meghalaya.”
Ravi is also the Centre’s interlocutor for talks with Naga insurgents.
The development comes amid demand for Roy’s removal following a tweet about protests against the amended Citizenship Act.
In attendance to witness the proceedings was chief minister Conrad K Sangma his deputy Prestone Tynsong and his ministerial colleagues. High Court Judge W Diengdoh also attended the swearing-in ceremony.
Senior government and police officials also attended the swearing in which was held at 12 noon.
Before the swearing of Ravi, Conrad tweeted, “We welcome the Hon’ble Governor of Nagaland Sh. R N Ravi, who will be sworn in also as the Governor of Meghalaya.”
However, after his swearing in, Ravi immediately left for Nagaland.
