Rs 5.45 cr spent under DMF fund for COVID-19: CM

Shillong, Nov 12: Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today informed the assembly that Rs 5.45 crores have been used from the District Mineral Foundation fund for COVID-19 related expenses.

Responding to a supplementary question by Congress MLA PT Sawkmie, the Chief Minister informed that the government of India had permitted using 30 percent balance of DMF fund for COVID-19.

The Chief Minister stated that Rs 10.5 crores in funds were released for the year 2020-21 under the DMF and Rs 14.17 crores were released in 2019-20.

East Khasi Hills District received a major part of the funds in 2019-20 with Rs 12,64,78,168 and East Jaintia Hills received Rs 7,63,71,646 in 2020-21.

In response to the question placed by Congress MLA H.M Shanpliang regarding projects implemented under the DMF, Sangma said that the projects are construction and renovation of school buildings and Anganwadi centres, health care, construction and repair of roads, water supply schemes, environmental protection, rejuvenation of streams and rivers and expenditure in connection with preventing the spread of COVID-19.
