SHILLONG, Oct 29: The Shillong All Faith Forum (SAFF) has urged the citizens of the State not to fall into the trap (to create division between communities) set by people from outside the State.
Naba Bhattacahrjee of the Central Puja Committee (CPC) and vice-president of the forum said that those trying to divide the people of Meghalaya should come to the State and to not make statements from outside.
Reverend Dr. P Lyngdoh, Church of North India (CNI) and SAFF president said that the meeting held at the Archbishop’s House, Laitumkhrah discussed the recent happenings in the city.
Reverend Lyngdoh said, “These happenings have brought unpleasant feelings amongst all in the state.”
He also appealed to all the people of the state not to succumb to hearsay that is seen in the social media without knowing the truth.
According to him Shillong has never experienced religious discord and it is only now that such issues are coming up.
Lyngdoh said that the meeting of the SAFF leaders held today has decided to try and go to the root of the issue.
Bhattacharjee of the CPC said that the Hindu community never experienced religious discrimination.
He pointed out to the peaceful Durga Puja celebration which was recently celebrated in the state.
“This is the victory of Meghalayans and Shillongites,” Bhattacharjee said.
