Seven from R. P. Hospital tests positive for COVID-19

SHILLONG, Aug 8: Meghalaya on Saturday recorded 17 new COVID-19 cases taking the total active ones to 594 with 12 recoveries.

Of the 17 cases East Khasi Hills recorded 12, North Garo Hills two and West Garo Hills three.

Director of Health Services (MI), Dr. Aman Warr said that of the 12 cases detected in East Khasi Hills seven are from R. P. Chest Hospital and five are civilians.

Dr. Warr also informed that the three cases in West Garo Hills are of Border Security Force (BSF) personnel and in North Garo Hills one is a health worker and another is a returnee from Assam.

The district wise break up of the active cases are – East Khasi Hills 453 (BSF 142, civilians 245 and armed forces 66), West Khasi Hills six, Ri-Bhoi 65, West Jaintia Hills 15, East Jaintia Hills 18, West Garo Hills 31, South West Garo Hills two, South Garo Hills two and North Garo Hills two.

The Director of Health Services also informed that of the 12 recoveries, East Khasi Hills recorded four (one BSF and three civilians), Ri-Bhoi seven and West Jaintia Hill one.

The total recovered cases in the State is now 423 and six died of the virus.

The total number of samples sent for testing till Saturday afternoon is 40700, out of which 39294 samples tested negative and the results of 383 samples are awaited.
