SHILLONG, Feb 19: Khasi Hill Autonomous District Council (KHADC), chief Hispreaching Son Shylla on Tuesday said that deputy chief minister, Prestone Tynsong does not understand the affairs of the council.
Shylla was reacting to the recent statement of the deputy chief minister and National People’s Party (NPP) that the party will implement the Village Administration Bill (VAB) if it comes to power after the February 27 autonomous district council elections (ADC).
The KHADC, Chief Executive Member (CEM) pointed out that many Himas (Khasi states) already has their own codified laws and only a few are yet to codify their own laws.
“The attempt to make VAB election propaganda shows that the state’s political leaders do not have the responsibility towards the issues afflicting the people,” Shylla said.
The CEM while agreeing that the Syiems (chiefs) of the Himas do have weaknesses and are not able to carry on with the duties expected of them said, “In such extreme situation, there is an Act which allows the council to take over the helms of affairs pending inquiry on the lapses committed by the Syiem.”
Meanwhile, Shylla also said that the current Members of District Council who are contesting the ADC polls should be re-elected so that their unfinished tasks can be completed.
