SHILLONG, May 24: A special train carrying stranded residents of the region Harayana was mobbed by another group of migrants at Danapur railway station in Bihar on Sunday morning.
The migrants at Danapur railway station pelted stones and broke the windowpanes of the train and forcefully entered inside the special train.
The Khasi Students’ Union (KSU) has expressed its concern over an incident in Danapur Railway Station, Bihar wherein people barged into the train and vandalised it.
The train was carrying stranded citizens from Northeast including Meghalaya from Gurugram on May 22.
According to the president of KSU Delhi unit, Marbiang Khongwir said the incident occurred at around 4:30 am on Sunday which had around 90 residents from Meghalaya.
“These people were harassed since the day they were to leave Haryana,” Khongwir said.
The KSU said that the Haryana Government informed them that they have to go for screening a day before they were to leave.
“Despite all that was happening around the stranded resident, the Nodal Officer of the State government when tried to contact did not pick up the calls for instructions,” Khongwir said.
This is the same train where a woman from Nagaland died and her body is now being brought by an ambulance from Kanpur.
The KSU, Delhi unit urged the Ministry of Railway and the Railway Protection Force to give security to these special trains which will be coming back to the region from States like Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Kerala and other places.
Meanwhile the central executive council of the KSU has condemned the attack on the special train carrying residents of northeast including Meghalayans.
The KSU has urged the Home Ministry to intervene into the matter.
“During this situation residents of the state returning back from various part of the country are being constantly harassed” KSU president Lambokstarwell Marngar said.
Marngar also said that the state government to take steps and take up the matter with the center.
