St. Xavier’s University Bill, 2020 to be placed during Assembly session

SHILLONG, Nov 4: The Meghalaya Cabinet today approved the St. Xavier’s University Bill, 2020 which will be placed in the Autumn Session of the Assembly starting tomorrow.

Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong while briefing media persons after the cabinet meeting said that the university’s governing body which belongs by the same name is famous, even as he added that it has various institutes all over the country.

Tynsong also said that this time the government is taking all measures that there are no fly-by-night operators in Meghalaya, given that there are many private universities operating in the State yet to have permanent campuses or conduct proper courses.

The Deputy Chief Minister informed that in order to safeguard the students of the state the Meghalaya Private University Regulatory Board was constituted.

“This application was sent to the regulatory board and even this board has strongly recommended that the bill be considered in the Assembly,” he said.

Tynsong also said that the government has learnt from past mistakes having seen quite a number of so called private universities which did nothing.

“We will not allow these kinds of things to happen and I assure you St. Xavier’s university is one of the most popular and famous institutions throughout India,” Tynsong added.
