Stand-off at Motphran on Thursday night

SHILLONG, May 31: Motphran and the adjoining areas on Thursday night looked like a battlefield after a conductor was assaulted by miscreants at Them Mawlong (Punjabi Line) in the morning.

After this youngster were assualted there were a stand-off between the drivers of the STPS buses and residents of Punjabi Line.

The boy, was taken to Civil Hospital Shillong and treated at the hospital and is admitted there.

Later in the evening, there was a flare-up in Motphran when a mob wanted to march towards the Them Mawlong area but was prevented by the cops.

At one point of a group from the mob manged to move towards the Them Mawlong but were chased away by police.

Police had to carry out blank firing and use tear gas to disperse the mob.

In Motphran, Mawkhar, Mission Compound, police were seen chasing away youths. In Mawkhar the mob blocked the road with rocks to prevent police from netering the locality.

A journalist who was covering the incident at Motphran was hit by a stone. Melquire Laitphlang a reporter with The Sentinel newspaper.Unconfirmed reports said that a police personnel was also injured due to the stone throwing.

He was treated at Civil Hospital and released after receving first aid.
