Shillong, Jan 15: People of Meghalaya will soon be able to enjoy cable car rides once it is installed. The first ever cable car will come up in Pynursla constituency, Deputy Chief Minister, Prestone Tynsong informed.
Tynsong informed that the cable car from Pongtung to Pynter under Pynursla will be around 2.5 km.
“The scenery is so good it’s so beautiful, once that is installed. I will tell you this area the rush of the tourist will be maximum.”
The ropeway will offer unparalled views of hills and valleys in the area.
The Deputy Chief Minister, who is also the local legislator of Pynursla constituency, hoped that coming of the cable car, will boost tourism in the area.
“So once that is done I am telling you, not only tourists from outside the state but even, domestic (locals) tourists be from Garo Hills or Janitia Hills, I am very sure that they will be interested to come down to Pongtung to take an experience by taking a ride on the cable car,” Tynsong said.
The Deputy Chief Minister informed that the concept was initiated way back in the year 2014-15 and in the year 2016-17, the Border Area Development department engaged one consultation.
Tynsong informed that the detailed project report has been prepared.
“The project was routed from the North Eastern Council and it has already cleared it. Now it is lying with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER),” Tynsong said.
The Deputy Chief Minister informed that recently he had a meeting with the Secretary of DoNER, along with the (DoNER) Minister and the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma.
Tynsong informed that the DoNER Ministry agreed to the project but due to the COVID-19 pandemic the work has slowed down.
“But very soon I am sure we will be able to get the sanction, and the total cost of this project is Rs. 21 crore,” Tynsong said.
