Testing centre at Pasteur Institute to function next week

SHILLONG, Jun 5: A new centre for testing of COVID-19 samples will start functioning in the state soon.

Presently, the State can test around 550 samples in a day.

The two testing centres are at North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences (NEIGRIHMS), Shillong and Civil Hospital Tura for the Garo Hills region.

The centre at NEIGRIHMS has the capacity to conduct 400 tests per day while the Civil Hospital Tura conducts 150 tests.

“The new testing centre at Pasteur Institute Shillong will be able to conduct
400 tests per day,” State Health and Family Welfare Minister, Alexander Laloo Hek said.

With the opening of the third testing facility the State can now test up to 1000 samples per day.

Meanwhile, Hek informed that till Friday afternoon a total of 9,820 samples have been tested out of which 9555 tests yoelder negative results for COVID-19 and the results of 232 tests are awaited.

It may be mentioned that Meghalaya so far has 33 COVID-19 positive case out of which one succumbed to the virus and 19 active cases.
