Shillong, Apr 4: Sitting MP and Congress candidate from the Shillong Parliamentary seat, Vincent H Pala has said that there is not much difference between the BJP and UDP.
Speaking at a meeting on Wednesday, Pala said his fight is not against a common candidate put up by the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) coalition but against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) who is behind the UDP.
“There is not much difference between the BJP and UDP and people also know this,” the two-time MP said.
Seeking a third term, Pala said that people in the state fear that their right to freedom of religion and food will be compromised if the BJP is elected.
He also said that there is fear among the indigenous people of the region in general and the state in particular that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill will dilute the culture of the people and resources will not be enough.
Pala also sounded optimistic that his victory margin this election will be more than what it was in 2014.
The Congress candidate from the Shillong Lok Sabha seat also predicted that BJP, candidate Sanbor Shullai will not make much impact as previously thought.
“BJP’s vote share will decrease compared to what they got in the 2014 election,” Pala said.
