‘There is no anti-incumbency against the party’

SHILLONG, Mar 22: Sitting Shillong MP, and Congress candidate Vincent H Pala said that the Congress has been representing the Shillong Parliamentary seat for 20 years and he does not think there is much anti-incumbency especially against the party.

“Anti-incumbency will be everywhere..There is no denying of the fact. Anti-incumbency may be against me…but may not be against the Congress. I may be not upto the expectations but my party will definitely be up to the expectation of the voters,” Pala said.

When asked if the autonomous district council (ADC) poll results, where the Congress did not do well especially in Jaintia hills region, will have a bearing in the Parliamentary elections the Congress MP does not think that the mandate given during the ADC election will be the same mandate for the MP election.

According to Pala the ADC polls were mainly fought on local issues like customary laws, but the MP elections is fought on national issues.

“A party who can adjust with the needs of the respective states and regions will have a better chance to win,” he said.
