Two committees formed to restore Street Hawkers’ livelihood

Shillong, June 26: Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong on Friday informed that two committees have been constituted to identify appropriate locations for street hawkers to start working.

He informed that the matter of livelihood for street hawkers was discussed at the review meeting today, and two committees one under CEO of Shillong Municipal Board and one under respective deputy commissioners of all districts were formed.

The committees will identify locations where street hawkers can resume their work so that their livelihood can be restored, he said.

However, he added that the health and safety of the people cannot be compromised.

He informed that Dorbar Hynriew Shnong expressed their disapproval to allow street hawkers to resume their business, and added that they have to be consulted regarding the same.
