UDP asks for removal of Power Minister, CMD

James Sangma
Shillong, Mar 22: The United Democratic Party (UDP), a coalition partner in the National People’s Party (NPP) led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government has demanded for the immediate removal of the Power Minister, James K. Sangma and the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of the Meghalaya Energy Corporation Limited (MeECL).
In a statement issued here on Monday, UDP, general secretary Dr. Jemino Mawthoh the two should be removed in view of the “ongoing serious financial bankruptcy” and other “financial and administrative mismanagement” in the Power department.
In a letter to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, the UDP said that this has plunged the State into an unprecedented power shutdown affecting the normal life in the state in general.
NEEPCO, on March 16, had sent a notice to the state government stating that it will regulate power supply from March 20 if Rs 504.41 crore dues were not cleared.
