SHILLONG, Sep 21: A delegation of the United Democratic Party (UDP) and the BJP met ex-chief minister, DD Lapang at his residence on Friday evening.
According to sources, both the parties met Lapang to try and convince him to join their respective parties.
“He however did not give any commitment to any of the two parties,” an aide close to the former Congress veteran said.
“The talks revolved around the general political atmosphere in the state,” the aide added.
Both the parties met Lapang at his residence in Lower Lachaumiere.
The UDP delegation was led by former legislator its working president Bindo M Lanong and general secretary of the party Jemino Mawthoh along with former Mawhati, MLA Donbok Khymdeit.
The BJP delegation was led by its president Shibun Lyngdoh.
Hours earlier Mawthoh had told media persons after the state election committee meeting held at the official residence of its president and Assembly Speaker Dr Donkupar Roy that they will be meeting with him and discuss the reason for him to resign from the Congress and if he would want to join the regional party.
