Vacancies in LP Schools by MTET teachers yet to be filled up

Shillong, Feb 2: Leader of opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma said that the vacancies for teachers in Lower Primary schools in Garo Hills which were required to be filled up by teachers who have passed MTET the process have not been completed yet.

Dr. Sangma said that while they have not been able to fill up those vacancies they have not been able to take up any other measures either by extending the service of teachers who were appointed on an ad hoc basis.

He said that there are 79 LP schools under Tura, 49 under Williamnagar, 94 schools under Baghmara, 70 schools under Ampati and 94 schools under Resubelpara.

“This is one of the reasons where parents have been compelled to take their children to private schools,” Dr. Sangma said.

He said that most of these parents belong to the most vulnerable groups, widows and single mothers.

He said that in the interior villages of Garo Hills the vacancies have affected the school going children.

“I remember this government saying education is a priority but I now know that this government has no priority,” Dr. Sangma said.

He said that the only priority is to delay the legal mining process and nothing else since that suits their interest.

He said that they have shifted their priority and the priority is lack of response to any allegation and lack of response to their call of duty.
