Vincent Pala’s fine with M’laya govt’s Independent Inquiry

SHILLONG, Dec 4: Congress MP from Shillong, Vincent H Pala on Tuesday said that he was satisfied with the Meghalaya government’s decision to institute an Independent Inquiry into the attack on women activists — Agnes Kharshiing and Amita Sangma in East Jaintia Hills on November 8.

“I think the government has done the right thing (to set up an independent inquiry). Judicial enquiry is sufficient enough.” Pala told media persons on the sidelines of an event in the city.

It may be mentioned that during the Special Session of the Meghalaya Assembly, the opposition Congress had asked the government to order a CBI inquiry while raising doubts about the integrity of those officials posted in East Jaintia Hills.

When pointedly asked on his own party’s demand for a CBI probe and raising doubts on the integrity of officials posted in the district, the Lok Sabha MP said, “It’s easy to blame to say that this official or that official is not good. Incidents which happen in the far off places how would people know what happened? It is easy to blame someone,” Pala said.

He however, was quick to say that this was only his personal view.

According to the Congress MP, when one is far away from the mining areas to blame that there is illegal mining is not right.

“We are involved in coal mining for the last 30 to 40 years and to mine it is very expensive. Just to pump water its takes a minimum of three months,” he added.
