Nongpoh, Nov 21: Meghalaya GAD minister, Coming One Ymbon on Wednesday questioned the Health department regarding the trauma center in Nongpoh that is yet to be made functional even as the building was completed ten years back with most of the equipments were purchased as far back as 2007.
Ymbon was chairing a meeting to review the implementation of schemes in Ri Bhoi district.
The minister’s visit was part of an innovative programme of the MDA government under which Cabinet ministers would have to visit one district every three months.
While delivering his keynote address, the Minister urged upon all departments to work together and explore ways and means to enhance accountability and delivery mechanism at all levels.
“The non-functioning of the cell has caused concern among the local people since motor accidents are a common occurrence along the Shillong-Guwahati national highway,” the Minister added.
The minister also expressed his concern over the non-functioning of the blood bank in Nongpoh Civil Hospital.
Ymbon also raised the issue of flash flood in Nongpoh and parts of Ri Bhoi District in the National Highway 6 which has affected the people of the district.
Speaking to media person after the meeting, Ymbon said that the purpose of holding the review meeting was to discuss how the schemes could be properly implemented within the stipulated time and by adhering to the guidelines of various line departments.
Moreover, the minister said, monitoring of all the sponsored schemes in the district is necessary for effective implementation of the schemes for the interest of the people and over all development of the district.
The review meeting held at the conference hall in DRDA office was attended by MLAs Mayralborn Syiem, Jason Sawkmie, Sosthenus Sohtun, and Dasakhiat Lamare, Deputy Commissioner Rose Mary Kurbah, block development officers and district heads.
Schemes reviewed during the review meeting includes the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, National Social Assistance Programme, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mid Day Meal programme, Integrated Child Development Scheme, National Health Mission, National Rural Drinking Water Programme, Total Sanitation Campaign/ Swach Bharat Mission, Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana, Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme/ Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana and Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana.
