15 pigs found dead in WJH; suspected case of African Swine Fever

Shillong, Aug 3: Deputy Chief Minister Prestone Tynsong, on Monday, informed that 15 pigs were found dead at West Jaintia Hills’ Lamin Village.

He informed that samples of six pigs have been sent for testing to North East Region Disease Diagnostic Lab at Khanapara, Guwahati.

“The report has to go to the government of India…we still don’t know if the pigs are infected by African swine fever,” he stated.

Tynsong assured that preventive measures such as disinfection of pig sheds, and more, have been undertaken and awareness programs have conducted at all Dorbar Shnongs.

He urged residents from the area not to slaughter and consume pork for the time being but added that swine fever does not transmit to human beings.
