Shillong, Mar 13: Three trucks carrying illegal coal were seized by Meghalaya Police at Phramer area of Jaintia Hills on Thursday and another two from Umkiang village.
Assistant IGP (A), G.K Iangrai revealed that a written FIR was received from Sub Inspector E.Pohchen of Phramer Traffic Cell on Thursay stating that they detected three trucks while patrolling the national highway and Phramer area.
“All the three trucks have been detained at Phramer Traffic Cell for safe custody and for further necessary action. The FIR has been forwarded to Jowai Police Station for registration of case,” Iangrai stated, adding that two drivers have been detained while the other fled from the scene.
In another case, two coal loaded trucks were also seized from DMR Umkiang on Friday, however police reveal that both the drivers fled before police arrived.
“The vehicle have been seized and parked near Umkiang petrol pump for safe custody under proper guard and the case is being registered,” they said.
