Shillong, May 9: Meghalaya Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department has conducted over 700 awareness programmes in view of the ongoing spread of African Swine Fever in the northeastern states.
The department has undertaken 974 telephonic briefings, sanitised 30 farms, inspected 105 pork stalls, pig sheds and private farms and has distributed pamphlets regarding the disease.
It was informed that 3 pigs have died as of Today till 2 pm. 1 in East Jaintia Hills’ Tongseng area, 1 in East Khasi Hills, and 1 in Ri-Bhoi district.
Post-mortem has reportedly been conducted and tissue samples have been sent to DIO Shillong Laboratory.
The department informed that a total of 37 serum samples, 7 blood samples and 20 tissue samples have been collected on Saturday.
On Friday, 1 blood sample and 3 swab samples were collected.
