Tura, April 16: The devastating storm has left more than 80 houses damaged after it hit Resubelpara and Bajengdoba area in North Garo hills, yesterday morning.
Deputy commissioner of NGH district, SC Sadhu said, “We are currently providing relief materials in terms of rations as well as materials for temporary shelters.”
“The Kharkutta C&RD block was largely unaffected but the two others, Resubelpara and Bajengdoba, have been hit,” said Sadhu.
According to district officials about 25 households in Bajengdoba area (till now were reported to be either fully or partially affected while the count for the municipal areas under Resubelpara could see a rise of about 45-50 houses either partially or fully damaged.
Complete reports are yet to come in for the areas affected due to remoteness of some of the villages affected however the DC confirmed that till now there have not been any relief shelters put in place.
“Immediately after the storm subsided, people have gone back to rebuilding their houses. We are helping them with interim relief for now in getting their lives back on track,” added Sadhu.
He also said, “We are in the process of surveying damages in other areas.”
No human injuries or casualties however were reported from any of the areas hit by the storm.
