Tura, Mar 14: The All Meghalaya SSA School Teachers Association (AMSSASTA) continued its demand for the release of pending salaries and arrears of the SSA teaching community with immediate effect.
The teachers have been denied salaries for about 5 months now leading to a huge number of problems being faced by them to even live a decent life.
“We strongly demand the competent authority of the Education department to release our pending salaries and arrears immediately. We are not getting paid since Nov 2017. We also request the state government to also pay our reduced arrears of eight months,” said publicity secretary of AMSSASTA, Tronament Sangma.
The association lamented the fact that other states were getting handsome salaries regularly while they have to struggle to make ends meet.
“They are paid regularly without any pending amount and are having a comfortable life with food and without mental tension while we have been hard pressed and compelled to cry due to no regularity of income to even meet our domestic needs or the educational needs our children,” said Sangma.
“We are compelled to take loans from others sources which in turn had been causing immense economic problems and great hardship. We therefore earnestly pray that the SSA teachers’ pending salaries and arrears may kindly be paid at once and as early as possible by the new government of Meghalaya,” added the publicity secretary.
