SHILLONG, Dec 19: The miners trapped in the illegal coal mines of East Jaintia Hills district are yet to be rescued since water level in the mine shaft has not receded.
According to authorities despite continous pumping of water from the mine, the water level kept on rising.
“Water level in the mine has risen by two feet and two inches in spite of continuous pumping. River water has also risen. This is all because of the rain,” authorities involved in the rescue mission said.
Meanwhile, it was reported that another person from Assam was trapped in the coal mine.
The person, Asish Bahadur Limbu, son of Ram Prasad Limbu, 9th Mile, Nepali Basti, Manja under Karbi Anglong district, Assam was also suspected to be trapped inside the Ksan coal mine.
With this latest report the number of person trapped inside the mine has gone up to 15.
Initially, when the incident occurred on December, authorities estimated that there were 13 miners trapped inside the mine.
On Monday, one Abdul Kalam Sheikh a resident of Magurmari village, West Garo Hills was reported missing inside the mine.
