Shillong, June 25: General and Publicity secretary of the Hynñiewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) Saińkupar Nongtraw on Thursday, said that they appreciated the stand by the BJP state unit and Health Minister A L Hek to “give peace a chance”.
The rebel outfit’s comment came after Hek stated that the government is always ready for peace talks with the HNLC. On Tuesday, he said that he will personally take the matter up with the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
Responding to the statement, Nongtraw stated, “After decades of fake promises from politicians, we are now pleased to know that Bah AL Hek has taken full responsibility to carry forward the peace initiatives with the Prime minister and Union Home minister including the other leaders of the NDA government.”
He welcomed the move and said that it was a positive gesture shown by the BJP state unit. “After getting positive responses from your end we have realized that we need to live to give back to our society. We are hoping for a positive outcome from this initiative which will enable us to build bridges with the government of India,” the statement from the HNLC read.
The outfit said that they “respect the gestures of Bah AL Hek” and assured that they will work with him “with our mind, our dedication, and our honesty to build bridges rather than walls.”
“Therefore as stated by the Health Minister Bah AL Hek, we give him the full liberty to go ahead with his proposal and carry forward our message of Peace to the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi and the other NDA leaders,” the statement read.
