Shillong, Jun 11: The Commonwealth Parliamentary Association Zone III virtual meet held under the chairmanship of the Speaker of Arunachal Pradesh, Pasang Dorjee Sona on the issue of a racial statement made by youtuber Paras Singh against Congress MLA from Arunachal Pradesh, Ninong Ering.
Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh also attended the virtual meet.
Lyngdoh on the occasion said, “It is high time that we take racial discrimination in India seriously before it starts penetrating into the minds of the younger generation.”
Following the meet, the Meghalaya Assembly Speaker informed that the Speakers of the eight northeastern states have decided to submit a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla to address issues of racism against citizens of the region.
The virtual meeting was attended by Speakers of Mizoram, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and the Deputy Speaker of Assam. The speakers of Manipur and Sikkim weren’t in attendance.
