Bank employee beaten up in Chibinang

Tura, July 5: Unidentified miscreants today thrashed an employee of the Chibinang SBI branch in the village of Chibinang.

The incident took place at about 2:50 pm this afternoon when the employee in question went out of the branch for lunch when the three miscreants, who waited outside for him to come out, suddenly assaulted him leading to him (Sylvester Marak) being rushed to hospital.

Marak’s condition is currently said to be stable.

According to a source from the branch, the incident is not an isolated one and there have been similar incidents in the past as well and a lax administration has led to the employees feeling very insecure in the branch and outside it.

“We are under daily threat due to the branch being overcrowded. Sometimes when they feel unhappy with the working of the branch they threaten us,” said a highly placed source at the branch.

The reason for the assault today on Marak is absolutely unclear as according to the victim, there were no arguments at all with anyone. The assaulted SBI employee is from Boko in Assam and is currently undergoing treatment in Phulbari CHC.

“He may have asked some people to maintain line discipline which could be the reason for the assault though no one could say for sure,” said one of the employees of the branch.

Relating earlier cases, an employee on the condition of anonymity said, “Our former branch manager was beaten up by goons in the main Chibinang Market and nothing happened. Similarly some people tried to play with the gun of the security guard to which he objected. His objection led to the entire branch being surrounded by people wanting to beat us all up. We are working in constant fear.”

The victim, according to sources has stated that he would be able to identify his assaulters though he did not know their names.

Meanwhile the SP of WGH, Dr MGR Kumar confirmed an FIR being filed by the SBI employee on the incident.

“We have received the complaint and a case has been filed. We have also identified a few suspects and are on the lookout for them. We are taking the matter very seriously and action will definitely follow,” said Dr Kumar.
