SHILLONG, Jul 4: Meghalaya Agriculture Minister, Banteidor Lyngdoh on Wednesday met, Union Minister for Agriculture, Radha Mohan Singh in New Delhi.
During his meeting with Singh, Lyngdoh drew the attention of the Union Minister towards the problems faced by farmers of the state.
“We discussed on many issues relating to farmers. Especially to encourage them to take up organic farming, whether it is Agriculture or Horticulture”, the state’s Agriculture minister said.
“I also took up the issue of many central scemes meant for the farmers of the state not reaching the beneficiaries,” Lyngdoh told media persons when contacted.
The state’s Agriculture minister also said that during the meeting which lasted around 30 minutes, there were also discussions on finding out ways and means to uplift the status of farmers.
Lyndoh also informed that at the meeting he was able to convince the Union Agriculture Minister to visit the state this month, to see first hand the status of farmers in Meghalaya.
