Shillong, Mar 26: The Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya on Thursday recovered arms and ammunitions believed to have been hidden by the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA), near a forest area at Chegnigre village under Rongra police station in South Garo Hills district.
On receiving specific information BSF troops of Rongra border out posts and Chegnigre 43 battalion during a search operation in the forest area near Chegnigre recovered one revolver (USA made 0.32 mm caliber), 50 amount of 7.62 mm rounds and four iron magazine (supposed to be AK SVD Airsoft Sniper Rifles).
“The GNLA has hidden arms at various places in Garo Hills which they use mainly for extortion purposes and other illegal activities. The seized revolver, ammunition and magazine have been handed over to Rongra police station for further necessary action,” the BSF said.
Hardeep Singh, Inspector General, Meghalaya Frontier said that the BSF’s network is in place to unearth more cache of arms and ammunition which are hidden by banned outfits in remote jungle areas.
“We hope that in future more such successful operations will be conducted. The BSF is successfully performing multifarious duties which includes guarding the international borders, creating sense of security among border population and their upliftment besides dealing with insurgent groups and foiling their nefarious designs,” Singh added.
