Shillong, Mar 10: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today had to again rescue his minister in the treasury, this time Commerce and Industries Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar.
During question hour on Day 4 of the budget session,, Dhar was asked by West Shillong MLA Mohendro Rapsang, whether the State Government conducted a study on how to revive Mawmluh Cherra Cements Limited and the reasons behind the losses made by the company.
The Minister replied by stating that going for a joint venture was the best option to revive the plant.
Not satisfied with the reply, the Congress MLA reiterated his question.
Chief Minister Conrad Sangma then jumped in to respond stating that in July 2019, the India Infrastructure Finance Company Limited (IIFCL) was engaged to submit report to the state government and study the company.
“Based on the report, they (IIFCL) told us that Rs 192 crores will be required to completely transform (MCCL),” Sangma said.
