Shillong, Nov 26: Meghalaya Leader of Opposition Dr. Mukul Sangma today alleged that Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, and Power Minister James Sangma tried to derail investigation into the SS Network Scam by transferring the inspectors investigating the case.
“James Sangma, Conrad Sangma, and their family tempered the whole investigation and they have tried to force the police to submit incomplete charge sheet in court without completing the investigation,” he said.
It may be noted that over 10 people were arrested in the Internal Revenue Service call center scam in Meghalaya.
A company called IFA had allegedly used SS Netcom owned by the Chief Minister and Power Minister to train youths from the state to impersonate IRS officers and trick American citizens.
“It is a dangerous case because it involves training our youth in criminal activity. I want the government to call a meeting of the State Security Commission and give answers to all these transfer and posting of police to derail the process of investigation and destroy evidence,” he stated.
According to a letter to the Dy. Inspector General of Police (E.R) A.R Mawthoh on February 1st last year, the Superintendent of Police, East Khasi Hills stated that the transfer of Inspector M.N Khan and UBSI Pintu Das had created a fear psychosis among officers of the district.
“SS Netcom recruited job seekers for IT-enabled services from Shillong and other parts of the state and North East, they were trained in Ahmedabad by one fake company called IFA. This IFA rented out premises of SS Netcom, before you rent out won’t you verify it? Not only renting out they trained these youths and brought them to Shillong to train boys and girls,” he said.
He added that during the preliminary investigation, it was found that these youths were trained to impersonate IRS officials and call US citizens to remind them of ‘discrepancies in respect of their tax returns.’
