CoMSO to resume protest over delay to implement ILP

SHILLONG, Jan 31: Irked by the delay of the Centre to implement Inner Line Permit (ILP) in the state the Confederation of Meghalaya Social Organisations (CoMSO) has decided to resume their agitation.

Reacting to the discussion held between the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma and Union Home Minister, Amit Shah on Thursday at New Delhi, CoMSO chairman, Robertjune Kharjahrin said, “We are sad that the Union Home Minister did not give any assurance on implementing ILP in the state.”

Kharjahrin said that the people of the state only heard from the Chief Minister that the meeting was “positive”.

” But we don’t know if he has agreed or not (to implement ILP in Meghalaya),” the CoMSO chairman said.

In its first phase of agitation, the CoMSO will organise an evening sit-in demonstration from February 4 to 8.

The sit-in demonstration will be held from 2 pm to 5 pm.

Meanwhile, the CoMSO said that the legislators of the state should not just sit back and say that they have passed the resolution in the House and their job is done.

Appealing to the MLAs to be “aggressive” in demanding implementation of ILP in Meghalaya, Kharjahrin said, “If need be all the sixty MLAs should go to New Delhi and knock the door of the centre.”

Meanwhile, the CoMSO has appealed to the people of the state to join them in their agitational programmes.

“We are only the organisers. The demand for implementing ILP in our state should be a people’s movement,” Kharjahrin said.
